Open Text Capture Recognition Engine (RecoStar)

Character Recognition

With Open Text Capture Recognition Engine character recognition software, our developers' aim was to replace manual data entry of forms with automatic recognition. Until recently, it was necessary to type in data from forms, which was a time-consuming and labour intensive procedure. Today, forms are automatically read from images (ie, pictures of scanned documents). Open Text Capture Recognition Engine is so efficient that investment payback is achieved within one year.

Open Text Capture Recognition Engine is the premium engine of the RecoStar product line, offering an even higher recognition rate than the basic engine. With this high-end engine, Open Text Document Technologies has combined the strengths of the two leading international character recognition engines, RecoStar and PSW6120, in one product. Both recognition engines have been used for years in numerous applications worldwide. When they run in parallel, a 'voting' procedure is used to optimise the recognised data.

Recognition Engine

The core engine contains two international leading OCR/ICR engines: RecoStar and PSW 6120. They are used in parallel and the results are voted. The combination of the two complementary recognition algorithms and the intelligent voting scheme result in much higher performance than the individual engines or a classical voting scheme would. Both engines can be selected on a field base. The latest addition is context based voting: Using language context during voting and dynamically creating multiple modified engines give another boost to the accuracy level of Open Text Capture Recognition Engine.
