The DOKuStar product family includes components for extracting information from documents. All types of scanned or faxed documents can be processed: forms, business documents such as orders or invoices and unstructured business correspondence. Even e-mails can be processed.

At present, the product family consists of two components:

• DOKuStar Extraction provides intelligent document recognition. Documents are classified and the required information extracted according to the document class.
• DOKuStar Validation supports manual processing. Users can validate and update data or enter completely new information.

One of DOKuStar's main features is its built-in free-forms recognition. This enables reliable processing for a broad range of different document layouts. This is why DOKuStar is employed at places where large volumes of inhomogeneous documents require efficient processing. DOKuStar has found its way into many well-known data entry and document management systems as well as being directly integrated into specialised applications. Easy interfaces and starter kits facilitate its integration into systems and applications.

System Concept

All products of the DOKuStar line can be combined or used individually. Their interfaces are designed such that each program supports fully independent integration and operation. If the tools are combined, the results of one program can be seamlessly transferred to the next.

If you only require an automatic data extraction tool, then it's sufficient to integrate DOKuStar Extraction. This application reads the scanned documents, faxes or e-mails and returns the document classes and associated information as an XML file.

It will usually also make sense to check the results and supply missing information using DOKuStar Validation. In this case both DOKuStar Extraction and DOKuStar Validation are used.

But DOKuStar Validation can also be used as a stand-alone application, that is, without DOKuStar Extraction. Possible application areas are processing automatic recognition results from other programs or supporting direct image-assisted manual data entry where no automatic recognition tool is used.
